  Biomass boiler energy systems
Woodwise supports and promotes the use of biomass boilers. A biomass boiler system generates heat and power principally by combustion of wood, although they can utilise a variety of organic residues and wastes. The latest-generation biomass boilers are very clean, producing a low-soot, colourless exhaust gas. Because wood fuel can be quantified as carbon-neutral, biomass boilers provide a sustainable, efficient energy solution. Biomass energy systems have been in widespread use throughout mainland Europe for some time and are now receiving active support from the UK government. They have been adopted by many local authorities.

The reasons why we support wood fuel:
  • Wood fuel can replace fossil fuels (oil, coal and natural gas) in heating when biomass boilers and heaters are used.

  • As a renewable energy source it is available all year round and is not dependent on external factors such as the sun or the wind.
  • Wood fuel is ‘carbon neutral’, releasing the equivalent amount of CO2 in combustion as absorbed when it grew. Wood is replaced in turn from sustainable and renewable, CO2-absorbing new tree growth.
Woodwise produces only premium-quality, Wood Energy-approved wood fuel:
  • Chipped to G30 W35 wood chip specification
  • Approved by Wood Energy
  • Low moisture for more efficient burning
  • No MDF, contaminated or treated wood
  • Seasoned hardwood and softwood
  • Timber is sourced from sustainable forests
  • Offcuts are returned to site without using extra transportation
