Woodwise: recycling timber offcuts into carbon-neutral wood fuel        Tonnes recycled to date: 0000132

Timber offcuts are collected on site using specially designed wheelie bins. The bins are collected regularly by utilising spare capacity within the normal operations of partner fleet vehicles. This method of transportation makes optimal use of what would otherwise be 'empty' runs by these vehicles, minimising transportation costs and emissions.

At the centre of the Woodwise recycling operation is a powerful Weima wood shredder capable of processing several tonnes per hour. This machine is a high performance timber shredder designed to shred large quantities of wood whilst having a low energy consumption itself.

The timber offcuts are fed into the hopper and shredded by rotor blades. The wood chips are then extracted through a screen which ensures the size consistency of the wood chip particles. The chip passes by a magnet to remove any metal fragments.

The chipped wood is then piped under pressure through to a final hopper at the end of the process, where premium quality wood chip fuel is dispensed into 1 tonne bags, ready for distribution.

The end result is the production of premium quality wood chip fuel that is provided, free of charge, for use in biomass boilers operated by local schools and community projects.
